Did you know?
- Current legislation prohibits the use of mechanical means to dig within 18” of a buried cable and pipe within the U. S. and 45cm on Canada. Therefore, hand or non-mechanical means are used to dig the last inches or centimeters to the pipe.
- Every year a significant number of injuries and deaths are attributed to explosions from a strike on a volatile pipe (petroleum, natural gas, etc.) or due to cave-ins and collapses of a confined space or trench dug manually. Most of these injuries or deaths could have been avoided if safer methods of excavating were used.
It Aids In:
* Uncovering buried natural gas lines and petroleum pipelines without risk of puncture or break.
* Locating fiber optic lines, cables, or utility pipes with very low risk.
* Providing a less evasive way of slot trenching, potholing, or pipe location.
* Working in conditions where the ground is hard, compact, or frozen.
* Minimizing disruption to sidewalks, roadways, driveways, etc. which are located near the excavation.
* Trenching in wooded areas without root damage.
Performing these functions by non-mechanical means or digging by hand can be complicated and dangerous – not to mention time consuming. SCS has made excavating easier and safer with its non-destructive hydro-excavator.

With over 14 million miles of buried cable, pipe, and lines, the possibility of a hit or cut is quite likely – given the considerable amount of construction excavation being done. Millions of dollars are spent repairing cuts in utility lines, cables, and fiber optics
